I did minimal changes in the nursery to transition it from Milam's nautical nursery to Barrett's travel/bear inspired nursery.  I bought a new crib sheet, a new pillow for his chair, added a few things to the collage wall, and changed out the art above the crib.  That's all.  It still needs to cornice boards above the windows and crown molding.  Some day we will get a lot of projects done.  Someday.

Milam's Park's Themed Big Boy Room Reveal

Transformation Tuesday Y'all!

This has been our fastest room to finish and just maybe my favorite space in the house.  It is so cozy, but not cramped, and just so sweet.  Milam loves his new room and is so SO proud of it!

I wanted an antique - little boy feel.  Rustic with a national parks collected over time vibe which is hard to get when you're on a time crunch.  All of that being said I am very please with the end result.

My mom's very sweet friend gifted us the crib.  It was her children's and she had saved it for her grandkids but ended up not using it.  Above the crib is a vintage poster print of every national park Milam has been to plus a photograph I've taken at each of those parks.  In the close up of his sheets you can see they are a bit of a retro camping theme.  So cute.  He loves them.

This is what you see when you walk in his door.  He has the smallest bedroom and has not only a crib but a big boy bed as well so it is a lot of furniture for now and although this picture looks cramped it does not feel that way in person.

The dresser was my grandmother's and my sister in law had it painted blue and ended up not using it. We were going to have his room be green but when we were given the dresser we figured we would just stick with blue verses repainting it since it had been done professionally.

The deer are from Jonathan's grandfather, the book cart is Ikea and we've had it forever, the sign is from a dear friend, the bedding is amazon, and the wool camping blanket was purchased by my parents way before I was even born. (Link to similar HERE)

 

This amazing bed is from Ikea.  We've had this bed for years as well and we just love it.  It has three giant drawers and has another bed that pulls out as well while the drawers remain intact.  We love it...did I already say that?!

The hooks are from Home Goods and the wooden box is from Jonathan's grandfather.  It's an antique glass milk box from Borden's where he used to work in quality control.  They still made ice cream when he worked there so he got to taste test ice cream for a living.  Dream come true.  The folded blue quilt was made by Jonathan's mom.

On the left is his hospital shadow box and the right is a sign from Jonathan's grandfather's garage that Milam picked himself.  So very proud.  The M and lamp are Homegoods, the rocker is Cracker Barrel, and Super Dog is from Target.  Curtains are Ikea.

The friend who made the John Milam sign also made the "God is Gracious" sign because that is the meaning of John.  It is so special to us.

One of Jonathan's employees made the cute little bucket for his nursery.  It was too cute to leave out so now it holds a few of his favorite cars.

His little drop zone.  He quickly grabs his "bip-bops" (flip flops) and his hat and is ready to go in just a few seconds.  I typically have two backpacks there.  Shown is his school backpack but I keep his church one there as well and his little keds that he wears all the time.

Thanks for touring his sweet little space.  Eventually we'll get his cow hide rug...if we ever can manage to find it in my mom's attic.  He also needs crown and cornices but that's for another time.  As of now he's sleeping in there and just loving it.  I totally blocked all the pretty natural light coming in and its a black box when the lights go off.  Just how we like it.

Milam's Nautical Nursery Reveal

This little boy nursery has literally been partially planned in my head since I was pregnant with Georgia, before I knew she was a Georgia.

His room is filled with so much love and history.  Literally every piece of furniture has the love of a former (or present) family member deeply embedded into it.  I love rooms like that.  The newest item is the crib but his big sister used it.  I was so sad when we took it apart.  It signified that she wasn't a baby anymore and we had no prospects of one anytime soon.  His dresser was used as a TV stand my entire life in all of my childhood home's living rooms.  The table and chair was my grandmother's when she was a child.  The upholstered chair was my great great grandmother's.  The large map on the wall was my dad's.  He's a boat captain and used this chart on one of his sails.

This space just makes me so SO happy and this is mainly what it looked like the day we brought Milam home.  I never posted pictures because we never got around to doing the cornice boards for the drapes and we didn't put up crown molding.  Both of which Georgia's room has.  You can see here room HERE.  We'll be making a few small changes before we bring Barrett home and when we do I'll post an update.  The paint color is Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore.

I bought the M before I was pregnant.  I knew our name choices were Milam or Magnolia so it was a place holder while we prayed for another child.

So many hours sitting here and getting him to sleep. And now we are doing it all over again! Ha! See you soon, Barrett...just not too soon!

Why Are We Remodeling the Garage?

Normally I would not be putting any time or energy into our garage when I still have SO MUCH left to do in our house but we're doing a bit of a switch around that requires the garage to at least be clean, dry, and cool for the time being.

We live in a four bedroom house and each of our kids have their own room plus a shared playroom (which they rarely use).  After a lot of thinking about it I've decided to create a photo studio in what is currently the playroom.  Normally that would be easy despite the fact that I don't like toys in their bedrooms.  They rarely use the playroom because Milam mostly plays in the living room and a lot of Georgia's toys were already moved to her room so that brother doesn't get into a million things that he shouldn't (and that are unsafe for him anyhow).  I need to add a bunch of under the bed storage (hard for me because I don't like things being under beds) and I would basically be done with moving then out BUT Georgia has very large gymnastics equipment in there.  So, she still needs a home gym!

The garage is a good solution space wise because it is huge and we can still fit both cars in there even while she would be using the equipment but the back door leaks under the trim, it's super dirty and gross, and it's really hot.  I cleaned the entire garage, Jonathan power washed it, and I've slowly been painting it while Milam plays outside.  In addition to cleaning and painting I need it to STAY clean so I've been caulking any and all holes and cracks trying to stop the water from leaking in.  I may have fixed that...I can't tell until it rains again.  Fingers crossed I have because her gym mat needs to go there and doesn't need to get wet.

I did the best I could to move everything that was stored in front of my car and move it to the sides.  When I did that I moved a shelf that was there when we moved in and revealed a really gross wall.  I turned the wall into a chalkboard because it was free to do so and I thought that would disguise the oddity of the wall the best.

Here is the hot mess right after I moved the shelf.  Eww.  I didn't want to put my baby's gym anywhere near this disgustingness!

So, here we are today.  Clean and dry.  Trim painted.  Wall painted and one door with the first coat of paint.  Once I finish painting and know that it's water proof then I will be on the hunt for a portable AC.  The garage has a door to the backyard but no window so that's going to be a little tricky but I have a few options.  I'm standing to the side of my car in these photos.  Near where Jonathan would park his.  I have a lot of space in front of my car and that's where the equipment will be going.  We do plan on converting our covered porch at some point and adding all new decking but for now this switch of a project is totally free so I'm going this direction.  Hopefully once the doors are done and dry the space will appear clean and we will want to keep it that way!

Once her home gym is moved to the garage then I can get my photo studio opened up and hopefully tap into a new market of photography that will be super usable once Milam starts preschool.  I kind of feels like a waste to spend so much time fixing up the garage when I have tons of other things that require my attention but at the same time it's been nice because that's the door we use to get in and out of the house multiple times a day.  Anyways, it's nice to be productive before the photography boom (Christmas card pictures!) hits and all I'll be able to do is stare at my computer screen.

And, that is why are are (semi) remodeling the garage!

Georgia's Room is Finally Finished

I mean, is any room ever really done? BUT, aside from a possible bookshelf, needing new carpet, and finishing the trim in the closet her room is now checked off of my list.

Georgia's room was originally a formal living room.  We (with the help of others) transformed it into her bedroom.  You can see before pictures HERE and see what it has mainly looked like ever since.

Her room is right off of the front entry way so everyone sees it when they walk in the house and I've been wanting to add the wow factor to her room for awhile and not just a jumble of her things.  It is still Whispering Peach by Benjamin Moore with cute peach details throughout (as well as owls because she loves those) but I added some llamas also because she likes them and they're cute.

Her bed, dresser, and night stand were all mine as a child.  My mom bought them for my "big girl room" when I was two and I've had them ever since.  The sconces are from my grandmother's house and the bird cage light fixture was a quick fix one night at HEB.

Jonathan did the paneling behind her bed and made the cornice board for her window.  The curtains are from Ikea and all the bedding is a huge mix from all over the place.  The llama banner is from the Target party section, and the adorable llama above her desk she made in art class and I could not get it framed fast enough!

Her collage walls and other wall decor is from all over the place.  Antiques, HEB, hand me downs...BUT the real show stopper is the beautiful flower mural behind her bed.  Those were hand painted by a friend and she did it for a steal and it totally makes the room.

Georgia made her "G" next to her bedroom door and I love it.  I was a premade wood G that she painted and decorated on her own.  It's so cute.
